Top stars in action for Indian GP at Patiala
New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Fresh from training in South Africa, top national athletes will vie for honours in season-opener India Grand Prix at NIS Patiala tomorrow.
The meet assumes significant as the atheltes will also get the chance to cross the qualification marks for the forthcoming Asian and World Athletics Championships.
Seema Antil and Krishna Poonia are expected to have a fierce tussle for top honours in the women's discus throw.
Krishna won Bronze in the Doha Asian Games with personal best of 61.53m but national record holder and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Seema will give her a tough fight.
Recovered from back injury, Harwant Kaur will add more spice in the event.
In men's 400m, national record holder KM Binu has shown drastic improvement during the training session in last few days and this will make Bhupinder Singh's chances more difficult.
Asian Champion Manjit Kaur, who failed to dip below 52 sec last year, is now ready to blaze the tracks in women's 400m with excellent timings. She too has reported impressive timings during training sessions in South Africa. Chitra Soman will be the only other runner to challenge Manjit.
