Top seeds to tee off for final berth tomorrow

New Delhi, Feb 9 (UNI) Four top seeds -- Shruti Khanna, Vaishavi Sinha, Meghna Bal, Laverry Kumar -- will battle it out tomorrow for a berth in the 36-hole final of the 90th All India Amateur Golf Championship here on Sunday.

Shruti will tee off against Vaishavi Sinha and it will be Meghna versus Laverry after that. They will be followed by the semifinalists of the Vikramaditya Trophy and the DT Challenge Trophy.

Shruti and Vaishavi had easy matches with their opponents unable to produce their best golf. Shruti required just one birdie to enter the semifinals with ease. Against Vaishavi's solid game, fellow junior Nalini Singh, playing her first match, failed to find her touch, finishing the match 6/4.

The second half of the draw was a very different story and Laverry Kumar had to produce her best golf to turn back her younger opponent, 12-year-old Mehar Atwal but the youngster was the first to succumb to pressure and Laverry was into her first All India final.

Meanwhile, the DT Challenge Trophy saw Aruna Sharma make the semifinals thanks to two walk overs, to play her first match of the tournament tomorrow against Neelu Chopra.
