Top seeds Aqueel, Vijay Kannan enter round two

Chennai, July 24 (UNI) On a day when rain threw the schedule out of gear again, Indians qualifier Vignesh P Chandrasekhar caused a flutter upsetting fifth seeded compatriot Vivek Shokeen in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(5) while top seeded Pakistani Aqueel Khan and second seeded Vijay Kannan made it to the second round in the 10,000 dollars prize money ITF Futures tennis tournament here today.

Aqueel ranked 538, had an easy 6-3, 6-3 victory over qualifier Tzu Yang Lin of Taipei while Kannan accounted for Cyril Hervieux of France 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets.

Kannan ranked 668 took on the lower ranked(1044) French lad Cyril with aplomb in the firt set giving away just two games. Cyril waged a fight back in the second but could not match the Indian Davis Cupper's better stroke play.

Eighth seed Guilherme Ochiai of Brazil, ranked 756, ousted another Indian Vishnu Vardhan in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 with better serve and strokeplay.

In other first round matches, Kiran Nandakumar ousted qualifier Kinshuk Sharma 6-0, 6-3, wild card entrant Kaushik Raju defeated another qualifier Siddarth Alapati 6-2, 6-3 while sixth seeded Tatsuma Ito of Japan showed the exit door to another wild card Indian Rohan Gajjar, winning 6-3, 6-3. Akash Wagh defeated Jaco Mathew 7-6(2), 7-6(6), as his opponent succumbing in the tie break. Ajain Selvaraj also accounted for another Indian N Vijay Sundar Prashanth 7-6(3), 7-6(6), the match going into two tie break sets. Indonesia's Yannik Nelord ousted another Taipei player Hsin Han Lee 6-0, 6-1 in a totally one sided match.
