Top archers for ranking circuit tourney

Hyderabad, Mar 15 (UNI) Top Archers from all over the country, including Arjuna Awardee Dola Benerjee and Tarundeep Rai, World Cup winner Jayanta Talukdar and Jhanu Hansda would be seen in action in the National Ranking Archery Circuit tournament began.

The top four archers from this tournament will qualify for the first World Cup to be held in Korea, secretary general Archery Association of India today.

The competitions will begin tomorrow with 100 archers in fray.

The Archery Association of India(AAI) will also select the Indian team for the second World Cup in Korea and Italy to be held in April and May, 2007, respectively, based on the performance in this championship.

This would also be the first leg of selection for the 44th World Championship to be held at Germany in July, 2007.

About 100 archers will take part in Recurve and Compound Bow divisions. In the FITA round, the archers would shoot four distances: Men 90, 70, 50, and 30 meters and women 70, 60, 50, 30 meters.

The top 16 men and women in Recurve and Compound would progress to the Olympic round where two rounds would be held on the thrid day.

Thereafter the top eight men and women archers in Recurve and in Compound would progress on to the next Olympic rounds to be held on the fourth day.
