Top 24 teams to vie in RWITC inter-club snooker team tourney
Pune, Mar 19 (UNI) Top 24 teams will be seen in action in the interclub Snooker Team championship, to be played at the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) here, which will commence from March 20.
Among the teams from the city include Poona Club, PYC Gymkhana, Deccan Gymkhana, PGI, Gamers Anonymous, Pool Around, 147 Snooker Club and Turf Club itself.
Tournament directors Anil Kakodkar and Arif Munjee said a total prize money of Rs 65,000 will be offered, while the winners will get Rs 25,000, the runners-up will get Rs 15,000.
A special prize of Rs 2500 will be given to the player scoring the highest break.
They said the tournament has been sponsored by the Turf Club member Pramod Patel and supported by Keku Nicholson of Selvel and UB Spirits.
The matches will be played on a round robin basis-cum-knock out basis with two Singles (best of 5 frames) and 1 Doubles (Best of 3 frames) Team championship format. The teams have been drawn in groups of 4. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals stage, they informed.
A special organising committee comprising Nitin Israni, Zubin Registrar, Mazhar Taherbhoy Raju Khandke, Crayzol D'Silva has also been formed for the smooth conduct of the event, they added.
Mumbai Zip Sports had won the title the last year, while Turf Club finished runners-up.
