Titanium impresses but bows down to CR
Pune, Feb 27 (UNI) Central Railway Mumbai snatched a 5-4 victory over Titanium Travancore in the sudden death to claim the Abhijit Kadam Memorial Cup today.
The Kerala outfit, Titanium, held the whip and put Central Railway under considerable pressure. The visitors from Kerala played an attacking game.
Titanium drew the first blood in the 44th minute when their striker Ebinrose struck after eluding a host of defenders to score from the close range. The Railwaymen restored parity through Sorroco Velhe in the 61st minute who capitalised on the fine opening created by Karim Shaikh.
The rivals were 3-3 in the tie break shoot-out. For the railwaymen, Santanu Kumar, Prabhash Tanardhal and Karim Shaikh scored, while Shabir, Dipu, and Ebinrose levelled for Titanium.
In the sudden death, the winners struck through the boots of Arun N K, while Nazab Khan missed his penalty kick.
Central Railway pocketed a prize money of Rs 71,000, while Titanium had to content with Rs 41,000.
The tournament had been sponsored by the Kalyani group of industries for the fourth year in succession while the Maharashtra Aids Control Society (MACS) were the co-sponsors.
