Three personalities feted for contribution to volleyball

Chennai, Sep 15 (UNI) GKM Volleyball Foundation, one of the leading clubs in Tamil Nadu, felicitated three oustanding personalities in recognition of their contribution to the development of the sport.

At a glittering function here last night in which the entire volleyball fraternity was present, the Foundation felicitated Customs and Central Excise Joint Commissioner S Shankaravadivelu and IPS officers P Balasubramaniam and T Thamaraikannan, both Joint Commissioners of Police.

Air Customs Commissioner C Rajan, who was the chief guest, lauded the role played by the trio in organising various events and their support to the game.

Speaking on the occasion, Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) Secretary-General K Murugan said the sports needed their expertise in organising various tournaments.

''Whatever they do in sports, they get little recognition. This is an occasion to recognise the contributions made by them for the development of volleyball and sports in general,'' he added.

Replying to the felicitations, the ''heroes of the evening'' promised all kind of support for the development of the sport, both in urban and rural areas.
