Three Indians in World Cadet Boxing Championship final

New Delhi, Sept 7 (UNI) Three Indian pugilists did India proud by storming into the finals of the World Cadet Boxing Championships at Baku, Azerbaijan, today.

Umesh Yadav (46kg), Vikas Yadav (48kg) and Vipin Kumar (50kg) scored easy victories against their opponents in the semi-finals to advance into the title round.

Umesh outpunched Grigoriy Nikolaychuk of Russia 21-10 while Vikas thrashed Louie Byrd of United States 28-16.

But, Vipin Kumar was the best among the Indians and his domination against Sang Min Lee of Korea in the semi-final bout at the Baku Sports Hallwas was such that the referee had to stop the fight in the second round when Vipin was leading by 15 points.

Vipin sets up a title round bout against Gamal Yafai of England who beat Gheorghe Catalin of Romania 27-11, while Umesh is up against Elvin Isayev of Azerbaijan who accounted for Martin ward of England 18-5.

Vikas faces Ciprian Apodaresei of Romania who won an RSC verdict against Pavlo Ishaneko of Ukraine, according to information received here.

India are represented by five pugilists in the the AIBA-sanctioned 13-category event for the juniors.

Earlier, Parmod Kumar (52kg) and Vankala Durgarao (54kg) had lost their quarter-final bouts against Yevgenyi Averin of Russia (15-25) and Frankie Gomez of United States respectively.
