Thane Varsha Marathon to be held on July 8

Mumbai, July 5 (UNI) The 18th Thane Varsha marathon conducted by the Thane Marathon Trust in association with the Thane Zilla Amateur Athletic Association, will be held on July 8.

This year a new initiative is being launched by the organisers with the relay race wherein six runners (four male and two female) will participate as a team with each running a distance of 7 km each. The first and last relay will be run by a female with the male athletes running the in between distances, Satish Pradhan, President of organising committee informed UNI here today.

Pradhan said there will be prizes for the first three finishers, while there will be seven more consololation prizes.

The winner will receive Rs 30,000, while the winning team in the relay race will receive Rs 25,000, he added.

Pradhan also said the organisers will be starting a 10-km race for children this year to take sports to the masses and inculcate a sports culture in them from a young age.

Around 250 to 300 runners are expected to take part in the actual marathon, while 22 teams of six runners each have confirmed their participation for the relay marathon, he added.
