Tewari injured while fielding, Powar receives knock on the hand
Dhaka, May 8 (UNI) Indian team's brush with injuries continued in Bangladesh also, with Manoj Tewari and Romesh Powar getting injured on the first day of their practice session here today.
The Indian team arrived for their first nets after landing at Dhaka last afternoon. The net sessions went on well till during the fielding sessions rookie batsman Manoj Tewari dived full length to stop a ball. The next moment he was writhing in pain. An awkward drop meant he had injured his right shoulder.
John Gloster immediately attended to his shoulder and gave an ice pack. Tewari took no more part in the practice today.
Earlier, Romesh Powar was hit on the hand by a Sreeshant delivery which came in sharply after landing with a good pace.
The beefy spinner immediately went for attending his injury.
He later came to bat at the nets, which showed that the injury was not so serious.
Later talking to the media, captain Rahul Dravid said, ''The injury is being attended to. Gloster is looking at Manoj. We have no further update to give now.'' He also assured that Powar was okay and so were the bowlers who looked visibly drained out after the tiring practice session.
The frustration was obvious on Dravid's face when he said, ''It's not nice for the players to get injured. Laxman is also sick and could not take part in the camp. But there is another side to it. It gives us a chance to assess the bench strength.
It's for the other players to stand up and get counted at this time.'' The practice sessions went off well with all the players attending to the nets under the able guidance of manager Ravi Shastri.
Bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad made sure that the bowlers bowled the right line and length while fielding coach Robin Singh went on with the fielding inside the ground.
