Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Kerala scored facile victories

Hyderabad, Feb 11 (UNI) Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala scored facile victories over their rivals in the second round of the South Zone One Day Cricket Tournament for K S Subbaiah Pillay Trophy here today.

Bharat Chipli and Rowland Barrington cracked centuries to help Karnataka score a crushing win over Goa by eight wickets. Chipli made 102 (82 balls, 15x4), while Barrington hit an unbeaten century 102 n o (93 balls, 10x4) and enabled Karnataka gain 5 full points, including one bonus point.

In another match Uppal test star V V S Laxman's heroics could not help hosts Hyderabad losing to Tamil Nadu by eight wickets. Put into bat Hyderabad made 188 losing eight wickets in 50 overs.

Laxman scored 65 off 109 balls with the help of five fours.

P I S Reddy (20 n o), Absolom (27 n o) were the other chief scorers.

Tamil Nadu reached the target losing just two wickets. Anirudha made timely half century 74 (67 balls, 13x4), while Hemang Badani hit unbeaten half century 67 n o (79 balls, 6x4, 1x6) and S Badrinath made 29 n o off 35 balls.

In another match, Andhra Pradesh put into bat scored 238, losing eight wickets in 50 overs. All rounder K Shabuddin made 77 off 89 balls with the help of seven fours and one sixer. He was supported by V Manoj Sai (37, 6x4) and A G Pradeep (36, 2x4).

In reply, Kerala costed to three wicket win in 48.2 overs.

S Suresh cracked 71 (5x4, 1x6), Manikandan made 76 (50 balls, 7x4, 4x6) and Sree Kumar Nair 44 (72 balls, 4x4) helped Kerala register first win in this edition.

Brief Scores: Hyderabad 188/8 in 50 overs (VVS Laxman 65, Absolom 27 n o, Kumaran 2/25, Ganapati 2/46) lost to Tamil Nadu 189/2 in 36.4 overs (Anirudha 74, Badani 67 n o, Badrinath 29 n o).
