Tait to undergo surgery, could miss Twenty20 World Cup

Sydney, June 18 (UNI) Young Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait's availability for Twenty20 World Cup later this year is in doubt as he goes under the knife tomorrow to treat his long-standing elbow injury.

The 24-year-old will undergo an arthoscopic surgery for a soft tissue problem and according to team physio Alex Kountouris he will be out of action until August, leaving him a doubtful starter for the Twenty20 World Cup in September.

''He will be undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow tomorrow to relieve soft-tissue impingement.'' ''We are hoping he will be back bowling by mid-August. This would leave him with a 50-50 chance of playing in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa.'' Tait played a major role in Australia's record breaking World Cup win in the West Indies, taking 23 wickets in 11 matches.
