Symonds resumes practice after 'fishing' row

Sydney, Sep 13 (UNI) Temperamental all-rounder Andrew Symonds has resumed practice along with Queensland and Australian teammate Matthew Hayden in his bid to make a return to the national squad.

Symonds was omitted from the Australian squad on disciplinary grounds after he went skipped a mandatory team meeting to go on a fishing trip just before the one-day series against Bangladesh in Darwin.

The 33-year-old's net session yesterday is understood to be his first training stint since that episode last month. Queensland coaching staff are hopeing he will resume practice with the state squad within a fortnight.

The burly all-rounder was also ignored for the four-Test tour of India which starts in Bangalore next month.

Australia's chairman of selectors, Andrew Hilditch, said he would wait until the burly all-rounder is mentally prepared for the rigours of international cricket before considering him for selection.

Symonds' exclusion has been welcomed by Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh who said Australia would be hampered by his absence.
