Swimmers saved from injury scare as pandal collapses
Panaji, Jun 23 (UNI) Hosts Goa Swimming Association (GSA) were forced to cancel five diving events of the day in the ongoing 24th Sub Junior National Aquatic championship at Sports Authority Swimming pool in the capital city here due to bad weather and heavy rains.
Event Technical Chief Ashok Sharma, who is also the Chief Referee cancelled all the five events of the day at 1500 hours.
The gutsy wind destroyed the pandal erected at the pool but the participants and officials were lucky to not get injured in the mishap.
Goa Diving Coach Narsimhalu told UNI, ''The pandal collapsed after all participants had left the venue as the referee announced the cancellation of today's event. Otherwise, about 20 to 25 children would have been injured.'' All the eight events including today's five events will be held tomorrow from 0700 hrs, depending on the weather, sources said.
