Super Cup row continues, Dempo coach says not playing at Gurgaon

New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) NFL champions Dempo, Goa, and AIFF seemed to be heading towards collision course over the choice of venue of Super Cup match.

Dempo stuck to their stand that they would not play against Federation Cup winners Mohun Bagan at Gurgaon on May 27 even after AIFF rejected their demand to hold the match at Goa.

AIFF General Secretary Alberto Colaco told reporters today that the Federation has sent a reply to Dempo coach Armando Colaco's letter stating that the match will be held at Gurgaon as scheduled.

''We have sent a reply to Mr Armando Colaco and the match will be held as scheduled at Gurgaon,'' said Mr Colaco in an informal media interaction here.

He also rejected the Goan side's assertion that there were precedents of Super Cup matches being held in the home ground of NFL winners.

''We had earlier instances of Super Cup match being held in Calicut which was a neutral venue,'' he added.

But, Dempo coach Armando Colaco told UNI over phone from Goa that his boys are not coming to play the Super Cup match at Gurgaon on May 27.

''We have received the AIFF letter but we are not coming to play at Gurgaon. We can't play at at 42 degree Celcius there,'' he said.

''We have shot off another letter to the AIFF stating that we can't play there (Gurgaon). It should be held either at Goa or Bangalore,'' he added.

The Super Cup match is played between the NFL champions and Federation Cup winners and it carried Rs 10 lakh prize money last year.
