Suicidal run out cost us the match: Dav

Dhaka, May 12 (UNI) Outgoing Bangladesh coach Dav Whatmore today said Tamim Iqbal's suicidal run out and the loss of early wickets caused Bangladesh's defeat in the second of the three-match one day series against India here today.

''We lost so many early wickets. Had we not lost them, the results would have been better,'' Whatmore, a former Aussie middle-order batsman, said.

On opener Tamim Iqbal getting run out for seven, Whatmore said, ''The first wicket was a bit of a gift to the Indians.'' On the positives from the match, Whatmore said, ''Bangladesh now have the ability to scare away a few people. Our objective is to be more competitive. We wanted to reduce mistakes and we do understand a bit more now that we have to be tough in some given situations.'' Reverting to Iqbal's run out, he said, ''We continue to present gifts. But still we came back and scored more than 200.'' Asked about the Bangladesh fielders dropping a few catches, Whatmore said, ''Fielding in these conditions was tough. Like in most teams not all the guys are superb athletes. Some of them are just good. Others are ok.'' UNI
