Stenson, Romero reach last eight at Wentworth

VIRGINIA WATER, England, Oct 12 (Reuters) Swede Henrik Stenson set up an all-Scandinavian quarter-final with Dane Anders Hansen when he won his delayed match against American Woody Austin at the World Match Play today.

Young Argentine Andres Romero also went through with a 3 and 2 victory over Swede Niclas Fasth on a wet morning at Wentworth.

Both matches failed to finish yesterday after fog had caused a near two-hour delay to the start of play.

Stenson resumed his 36-hole first-round encounter with Austin on the 18th tee and secured a one-hole victory with a birdie four.

Romero was two up with four to play overnight and a birdie three at the 16th proved enough to end Fasth's challenge.

The 26-year-old Romero, third in the British Open at Carnoustie in July, next meets record six-times World Match Play champion Ernie Els in the golfing equivalent of Sunday's rugby World Cup semi-final between Argentina and South Africa.

Today's remaining quarter-finals pit holder Paul Casey of Britain against Argentine Angel Cabrera and Dane Soren Hansen against American Hunter Mahan.
