Stenson fined after damaging tee marker
CARNOUSTIE, Scotland, July 20 (Reuters) World number seven Henrik Stenson faces a fine of 1,025 dollars after damaging a tee marker during the British Open second round today.
A visibly frustrated Stenson took a swipe and broke pieces off the marker on the eighth hole after a wayward tee-shot that subsequently cost him a triple-bogey six.
The Swede's action will be reviewed by the European Tour's tournament committee after Open organisers the Royal and Ancient (R&A) handed the matter over to them.
But the tour's chief referee John Paramor has already warned the player of his fine, a tour spokesman told Reuters.
Stenson, the WGC-Accenture Match Play winner and European money-list leader, has already earned 2.5 million dollars this year.
