Sportspersons hail Azad for TRC ground decision
Srinagar, Apr 12 (UNI) Sportspersons from the city have hailed Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for restoring the status of the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) ground which was reportedly being converted into a Tulip Garden.
In a statement here, Dalgate Sports Centre, general secretary Sajid Yousuf Dar also lauded Minister of State for Sports and Youth Services Babu Singh and other senior officials for allowing the youth of Srinagar to use the TRC ground for sports activities.
It said the sportspersons of the Kashmir valley would have suffered a lot if the TRC ground was converted into a garden.
The statement said the youth of Srinagar have limited sports fields and the TRC ground is among few such grounds in the city and spend their free time in these grounds indulging in various sports activities.
''Had the TRC ground been converted into a garden, the move would have deprived the youth of the vital sports facility. This would have also drawn them to drugs and other social evils,'' it added.
The Centre urged the authorities to improve the facilities in the TRC ground and also focus on its maintenance.
