'Sports Meet' begins in Mysore

Mysore, Oct 15 (UNI) Over 2,500 sportspersons will participate in a three-day 'Sports Meet' at Chamundivihar Sports Stadium which was inaugurated by Women World Billiards Champion Chitra Magimaraj here today.

To add colour to the Dasara festivites, a galaxy of international sportspersons like the international basketball player Kruthika and international volleyball player Vikram brought the torch to the ground while international athlete Sreena Priyadarshini took oath on behalf of the sportsmen.

The meet organised by the State Youth Services and Sports Department, would be conducted for 24 events at different centres in the city.

The organisers honoured world under-10 chess champion Girish Koushik and India's No one under-18 tennis player Poojashree Venkatesh, who represented India in the US Open Junior Grand Slam Tennis in 2007, on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Chitra Magimaraj urged the sportspersons to strive hard for success.
