Sports may be made compulsory in schools

Gwalior, Feb 12 (UNI) The Human Resource Development Ministry is mulling a proposal to make sports a compulsory subject in school curricula, Sports Authority of India Director-General Arun Pandya said today.

''A proposal also exists for making sports compulsory at college level,'' he said here while addressing an International Congress, on sports-related aspects, organised by the Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) and its Alumni Association.

LNIPE Vice-Chancellor Major-General (Retd) S N Mukherji said that the event's objective was to discuss sports medicine, physical education, exercise and Yoga.
