''Sportnexus-TSM'' to encourage corporate sports

Pune, June 20 (UNI) Newly-formed franchise ''Sportnexus-TSM'', in association with Total Sports Management, will be hosting a ten-event series beginning from June 23 to encourage sports in the corporate and infotech sectors.

''We have embarked on the mission recognising the fact that some top level sportspersons had to give up sports because of job constraints,'' observed the franchise directors Jehan Kothary and Sunder Iyer, while speaking to reporters here today.

The new venture will host indoor and outdoor events like badminton, table tennis, tennis, pool, bowling, chess, soccer, cricket, swimming and basketball during the year upto March 2008, Mr Kothary said.

Over 100 corporate organisations in and around Pune are expected to vie for honours in the corporate sports series in the individual or team events, Mr Kothary said. The events will be played only on Saturdays and Sundays.

The sports series will kick off with the hosting of badminton event to be held at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana wooden courts on June 23, Mr Iyer informed. ''We have received 120 entries in the men's section and 32 in the women's,'' he added.

Mr Iyer further said that the event will be competed in men's and women's singles and mixed doubles categories. In the team events, 22 teams will be participating.

This will be followed by the swimming competition to be held at Club Mobius at Aundh on July 7 and 8, while table tennis will be held at the Deccan Gymkhana on July 21 and 29. The rest of the programme will be announced from time to time.
