Southern Rly women put it across Central in 3rd extra time
Mumbai, Jan 18 (UNI) In one of the rarest occurances in basketball, extra period, was in force for not once but thrice before Southern Railway got the better of Central Railway 93-82 in the women's four-team league of the 2nd Savio Cup-Don Bosco All India Invitation basketball tournament held at the Don Bosco Recreation Club court here today.
After both the teams were locked 66-66 at full time, first extra period of five minutes saw both again being locked at 74-74. In the third, tension mounted as both went for an all out attack.
Southern turned out to be successful and converted baskets, Central on the other hand, messed up numerous opportunities that came their way. For Southern, the tall Geethu Anna Jose, who is a professional and plays abroad in the Australian league, was their outstanding performer with 44 points.
Meanwhile, national champions Services continued their march with yet another authoritative win over Punjab 91-67. This was their fifth win in a row. The next to them are UPL Rest of India, who have four wins and a loss to Services.
