Southern Railway
Chennai, Apr 29 (UNI) Formidable Southern Railway, Chennai, and Central Railways, Mumbai, maintained a clean slate emerging group toppers and qualified for the semifinals in the first Golden Eagle-Blue Sports Academy All India Invitation Basketball Tournament here tonight.
Southern Railway topped the three-team in Group A with two wins, followed by Western Railway, one win and one loss. KSEB Trivandrum, the third team in the group, lost both their league matches.
Similarly in Group B, Central Railways won their league encounters against SRM Rising Star, Chennai and South Western Railways, Hubli to top the group. SRM Rising Star with one win and loss stood second in the group while South Western Railway losing both the league matches finished at the bottom.
In the semifinals tomorrow, Southern Railway will meet SRM Rising Star and Western Railway will meet Central Railways.
In the last women's league match, Southern Railway defeated Western Railway 55-37, with Geetha Anna Jose top scoring with 14 points. M Adhirai scored 10 points.
For Western Railway Sheeja Mathew scored 14 points and Menaka Antony scored nine points.
Since both the teams had already won their opening league encounters, the win enabled Southern Railway to emerge as group topper.
