South Africa fined for slow over-rate

Georgetown, Guyana, Apr 8 (UNI) Adding salt to their injury after the 67-run shocking defeat at the hands of giant killers Bangladesh here, South Africa were fined by match referee Chris Broad for slow over-rate during the Tiger's innings.

A statement issued by the ICC said Broad handed the fines after Graeme Smith's side was ruled to be one over short of its scheduled target at the finish of the Bangladesh innings when time allowances were taken into consideration.

''In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount,'' said the statement.

Smith has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee, while his other players each received five per cent fines.

In the mega event so far, India, Pakistan and West Indies were the other sides to be penalised for slow over-rates.
