Sikkim's athlete to take part in 2007 Spl Olympics World Summ

Gangtok, Sep 14 (UNI) A disabled athlete from Sikkim will be a part of the Indian contingent participating in the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games scheduled at Shanghai in China from October 2.

23-year-old Nirmal Dahal has been selected for the Special Olympics following a series of state level and national level coaching camps. Dahal is suffering from intellectual disability. He will be participating in the power lifting category, said Dr BP Dhakal, general secretary, Sikkim Chapter of Special Olympics Bharat.

District Sports Officer of state sports department, Dr Ram Bahadur Biswakarma is also representing India in the Shanghai games as a coach of power lifting.

A function was held today at Spastics Society of Sikkim where the members expressed their best wishes to Dahal. ''We hope that he will bring laurels to the country and the state,'' said Manita Pradhan, president of the society.
