Sikkim leads medal tally on the penultimate day
Gangtok, Feb 27 (UNI) Host state Sikkim here today led the medal tally grabbing 20 gold, ten silver and seven bronze medals on the penultimate day of the the 21st North East Sports festival.
As per the results available so far, Manipur ranked second with 16 gold, 19 silver and 15 bronze followed by Asom with 14 gold,18 silver and 16 bronze medals.
While, Nagaland collected 6 gold, five silver and 19 bronze, Arunachal Pradesh had added six gold, six silver and 12 bronze to its kitty so far. Mizoram managed to win four gold, six silver and 17 bronze to remain in the seventh position.
Tripura figured at the bottom of list with five silver and 10 bronze.
Sikkim, which had shown its prowess in Taekwondo and Karate in the just concluded National games by collecting six medals including two gold, showed its expertise also in Boxing and archery besides karate in this event.
In Football(men), Sikkim beat Mizoram by 2-0 in a semifinal to move to the finals.
Chunku Sherpa and Kamal Bagdas scored for Sikkim in 42 and 80 minutes. Sikkim would meet Meghalaya in the final tomorrow.
In the other semifinal Meghalaya beat Nagaland by 3-0. Romeo Sukeleya scored twice in 32 and 72 minutes and Gordon Zoram Chhana scored a goal in 45 minutes to beat Nagaland.
In the women Football Sikkim beat Mizoram 2-0 and Manipur trounced Nagaland 10-0 to reach final. While, Naobi Devi and M Bem Bem Devi scored three goals each TH Minica Chance scored two goals and L Ashrani Devi and N Roma Devi scored one goal each.
Sikkim would meet Manipur in the finals tomorrow.
