Shooters pale show continues; Narang, Rajput fails to reach finals
Sydney, Apr 30 (UNI) Indian shooters continued their dismal outing at the ISSF World Cup here, as highly-rated Gagan Narang and olympic qualifier Sanjeev Rajput both failed to qualify for the final rounds in the men's 50m rifle three position event.
Narang finished a diappointing 23rd in the event with a score of 1161 (Prone 394, Standing 385, Kneeling 382), while his compatriot Sanjeev Rajput who booked the olympic berth earlier this month in the world cup at Fort Benning, finished two places behind him with a score of 1160 (Prone 397, Standing 381, Kneeling 382). The third Indian in the event Imran Hassan Khan shot a score of 1157 (Prone 392, Standing 379, Kneeling 386) to finish 32nd in a field of 56-shooters.
The gold in this event was won by Anti Michael of US with a score of 1278.1 (1181+97.1), silver by Debevec Rajmond of Slovakia with a score of 1274.2 (1178+96.2) and Emmons Matthew of US took the bronze with a score of 1272.7 (1171+101.7).
Meanwhile, in the women's category of the event, India's Meena Kumari secured 33rd position with a total score of 571 (Prone 195, Standing 188, Kneeling 188), Deepali Deshpande finished 52nd with a score of 559 (Prone 187, Standing 182, Kneeling 190), while Tejaswini Sawant finished a disappointing 53rd with a score of 559 (Prone 186, Standing 186, Kneeling 187) in the field of 56-shooters.
The gold in the event was won by Kazakhistan's Dovgun Olga who shot a score of 689.1 (589+100.1), silver by Bogacka Sylivia of Poland with a score of 684.4 (586+98.4) while the bronze went to Wan Xiangyan of China with a score of 682.3 (582+100.3).
