Shillong celebrates 100 days to 4th Military World Games

Shillong, July 9 (UNI) Green India Campaign was organised by 101 Area here to mark 100 days to 4th Military World Games, to be held at Hyderabad and Mumbai in October, on Sunday.

The occasion was celebrated with great fervour. A cultural programme was presented by school children of Army School, Kendriya vidaylaya, Hill View School and Asha School from Happy Valley besides NCC Cadets and general public from Shillong, a defence release said.

Chief Guest, Meghalaya Forest Minister M N Mukhim, lauded the efforts of Army in making Shillong green and clean.

He also highlighted the contribution of 101 Area in creating awareness about the army amongst locals, it said.

Besides planting saplings, he also stressed the importance of 4th Military World Games and value of games in building of strong character and mental robustness of the countrymen, it added.

Meanwhile, as a part of Indian Air force Platinum Jubilee celebration, a tree plantation drive was held at HQ Eastern Air command, Upper Shillong, yesterday, where Air Marshal P K Borbora along with his wife inaugurated the plantation drive by planting trees. About 300 saplings consisting of various types including fruit trees were planted within the vicinity of Air force Headquarter, a defence release said.
