Jaipur, June 4 (UNI) Defending champion Sharath Kamal, Mouma Das and Poulomi Ghatak have entered the men and women's singles quarter finals respectively in the 17th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship at the SMS Indoor Stadium here today.

Fourth seed Sharath Kamal had to struggle hard before beating Andrew Rushton of England in five sets 11-7, 11-9, 11-5, 9-5, 11-5.

Besides Sharath eight other Indian paddlers who appeared in the main draw made their exit. Qualifier Amalraj, who had shocked eighth seed Monday Merotohun (Nigeria) in the first round, lost in the pre quarterfinal to ninth seed Zhilong Brad Chen of New Zealand 10-12, 6-11, 5-11, 11-5, 11-8, 8-11.

The other Indians who lost were Pathik Mehta, Anirban Nandi, Jitendra Kumar Gidia, Subhajit Saha, Soumyadeep Roy, Shibaji Dutta and Jubin Kumar.

National champion Mouma Das faced a stiff resistance before beating Cecillia Put Offiong og Nigeria 11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, while tenth seed Poulomi Ghatak too fought gallantly to prevail over seventh seed Karen Li og New Zealand 12-10, 7-11, 11-7, 11-9, 6-11, 11-3.

Nigeria's Bose Kaffo created a major upset in women section as she shocked second seed Bei Bei Sun of Singapore in straight sets 11-3, 11-4, 11-8, 11-6. Top seed Yue Gu Wang of Singapore trounced Malaysia Soo Jin Chu 11-8, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8 while third seed Miao Miao of Australia made short work of Englands Kelly Sibley 11-7, 11-6, 11-5, 11-6.

In the men's section top seed Ning Gao of Singapore trounced Kyle Davis of Australia 11-4, 11-4, 8-11, 11-1, 11-9 while his team mate Zi Yang had to fight tooth and nail to beat Seun Ajetunmobi of Nigeria 11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 5-11, 11-7, 10-12, 11-6.
