Shane Lowry Targets Second Major Title And Ryder Cup Spot In 2025
Shane Lowry is eagerly aiming for another major victory in 2025 and hopes to secure a spot in Europe's Ryder Cup team. He believes the upcoming Ryder Cup will be among the most memorable. Lowry's impressive six-shot triumph at The Open in 2019, where he defeated Tommy Fleetwood at Royal Portrush, marked a significant milestone. Since then, he has achieved four top-10 finishes in major tournaments.
Lowry's consistency is evident as he has secured top-25 finishes in three majors each season over the past four years. Notably, he tied for sixth place at the 2024 PGA Championship, matching the lowest round ever recorded in a major tournament. His strong start to the current season has propelled him back into the world's top 20 rankings, fueling his optimism for 2025.

Lowry emphasises that his dedication is primarily directed towards excelling in major tournaments and the Ryder Cup. "I certainly don't go to make up the numbers," Lowry shared on Sky Sports' Golf Podcast. He highlighted that these events are his primary focus, with five key dates marked on his calendar as opportunities to deliver his best performances.
The Irish golfer cherishes the pressure and challenges of major tournaments, attributing many of his standout performances to these high-stakes events. He expressed a particular fondness for the weeks leading up to The Masters and The Open, relishing the anticipation and preparation involved.
Having participated twice in the Ryder Cup, including a victorious outing with Team Europe in 2023, Lowry is determined to contribute significantly to future successes. This year, he finished second at Pebble Beach Pro AM, trailing Rory McIlroy by two strokes. His sights are set on securing a place in Europe's Ryder Cup squad for September's tournament.
"I obviously want to be a part of it," Lowry stated regarding playing at Bethpage Black. He aspires not only to join the team but also to play an integral role in achieving victory. Lowry anticipates this Ryder Cup will be one of the greatest ever and hopes Europe emerges victorious.
Lowry's ambition extends beyond winning just one more major title; he acknowledges that achieving another victory would likely fuel his desire for further success. "I'm very fortunate that I have one," he remarked about owning a Claret Jug, expressing his eagerness to add more trophies to his collection.
As Lowry continues his journey through professional golf, his focus remains steadfast on performing well in majors and contributing meaningfully to Europe's Ryder Cup efforts. With determination and skill guiding him forward, he aims to leave an indelible mark on both fronts.
