Servin Sebastian’s Race Walk Redemption: Bronze Glory At Asian Athletics Championships
With every stride, Servin Sebastian turned heartbreak into history. India's rising race walking star clinched the country's first medal a bronze in the men's 20km race walk at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, clocking a personal best of 1:21:13.60. It was more than just a medal it was the breakthrough of a lifetime.
The race was dominated by China's Asian Games medalist Wang Zhao Zhao (1:20:36) and Japan's Kento Yoshikawa (1:20:44), but Servin's perfectly timed push earned him a coveted spot on the podium-and a place in Indian athletics history.

This medal is a significant chapter in Servin's redemption arc. Last year, he narrowly missed out on a Paris Olympics berth despite qualifying - a blow that almost derailed his momentum. But in 2025, he's rewriting the script.
He kickstarted his season at the National Games in Uttarakhand, winning gold with a record-breaking 1:21:23, smashing Gurmeet Singh's 1:23.26 meet record. That performance punched his ticket to the Asian Championships. He followed it up with another gold at the Indian Open in Chandigarh, clocking 1:21.47. In Gumi, he topped it all with his best-ever time.
"Every athlete dreams of the Olympics. Servin did too. After the Paris miss, he was shattered. But we worked hard on rebuilding-physically and mentally," said his coach Basanta Bahadur Rana, himself an Olympian. "After the race, Servin told me, 'If you had been here, I would have clocked an even better time."
With this bronze, Servin joins an elite club of Indian race walkers-only the eighth to medal in this event at the Asian Championships, following legends like Chand Ram and Hakam Singh.
Now, all eyes are on Tokyo. "Our main target is the World Championships," said Rana. "Servin's ranking will rise with this medal, and we're confident he'll peak at the right time."
From missed dreams to marching medals, Servin Sebastian's comeback is a race well-won-and far from over.
