Sensational Shiv jumps to tied 3rd; Jyoti, Jeev miss cut
Abu Dhabi, Jan 19 (UNI) It seemed Shiv Kapur couldn't put a foot wrong foot today as the gifted Indian golfer carded a sensational blemish-free six-under 66 round to jump to a tied third spot even as his celebrated compatriots -- Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa -- fell by the wayside at the European Tour's two million dollar Abu Dhabi Open Golf Championships here.
With an aggregate of eight-under 136, Kapur is just two strokes shy off the leader, Phiilip Price of Wales, who returned a superb seven-under 65 card to climb atop the leaderborad.
Shiv had a dream start dropping consecutive birdies on the first two holes. He didn't stop there and went on two fire three more on the fourth, sixth and eighth to make the turn at five under.
Shiv appeared to play safe in his back nine, nevertheless he gained another stroke on the 15th before signing off for the day.
Meanwhile, Jeev Milkha Singh couln't continue his form of 2006 and the World No 37 missed the cut by a stroke in the very first event of the year.
After his one-over opening round, Jeev sank in three birdies but also dropped two bogeys to return a one-under card -- not good enough to see him through.
Another Indian star Jyoti Randhawa had a nightmarish back nine dropping two bogeys and a double bogey and although he tried hard and gained four strokes on his front nine, his successive leve-par round proved insufficient in the end.
