Seeded players continue to flatter

Bangalore, Feb 14 (UNI) Third seed Bardina Vasillsa of Russia and eighth seed Brianti Alberta of Italy made the exit, while qualifier Yurika Sema of Japan and Obziler Tzipora of Israel entered the quarter-finals in the Sony Ericsson International Tennis tournament played at KSLTA statium here today.

Obziler Tzipora of Israel, ranked 117, made mincemeat of Bardina with a straight sets 6-1, 6-2 win, while Australian Alicia Molik ousted Brianti of Italy 6-4, 6-3 to enter second round.

Sema, ranked 237, rallied back brilliantly after losing the first set and battled for over two hours to make it to last eight with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Yulia Beygelzimer of Ukranian. Yulia, ranked 115, was impressive in the first set but failed to overcome cramps that affected her game thereafter.

Alicia, ranked 97 did not find much resistence from 89 ranked Alberta in the match that lasted 60 minutes. Though Alberta started off well initially in both the sets she could not maintain the tempo and though lower ranked the Australian lass was very consistent and played very cautiously.

In the doubles, as expected fourth seed Su-Wei Hsieh of Taipei and Alla Kudryaviseva of Russia trounced Chan Chin-Wei of Taipei and Meng Yuan of China in straight sets 6-4, 6-0 to enter Quarterfinals.

Results: Singles: Alicia Mollik (Aus) bt S8 Alberta Brianti (Ita) 6-4, 6-3; Yurika Sema (Jpn) bt Yulia Beygelzimer (Ukr) 1-6, 6-4, 6-1; Tziora Obziler (Isr) bt S3 Vasilisa Bardina (Rus) 6-1, 6-2.

Doubles: S4 Su-Wei Hsieh (Tpe)/Alla Kudryaviseva (Rus) bt Chin-We Chan i (Tpe)/Meng Yuan (Chn) 6-4, 6-0.
