Second successive win for Amloh XI

Ludhiana, Jan 12 (UNI) Amloh XI registered second successive win by defeating Khaira Hockey Academy 7-0 in a Group I Pool B match in the Western Union Punjab Hockey B League for Boys Under-14 at the Punjab Agriculture University Astroturf Stadium here today.

Amloh XI forged ahead in the second minute through Gurdeep Singh who dodged past a couple of defenders before scoring a field goal.

Gurdeep scored another field goal in the 18th minute. In between Saravjit Singh had converted a penalty corner in the 12th minute to double the margin.

After that, Parveen Kumar made his presence felt as he contributed field goals in the 24th and 35th minutes.

Amloh XI, which had managed to beat Khusropur Hockey Academy in their opening match, increased their victory margin as Sukhbir Singh (31st minute, penalty corner) and Yadvinder Singh (43rd) contributed one goal each.

Amloh XI forced seven penalty corners but could convert only two.

Khusropur Hockey Academy tasted their first triumph as they outplayed Sahib Dass Hockey Academy of Sangrur by 4-1 in the second Pool B fixture.

Down by an early goal, Khsropur Hockey Academy fought back with redoubled vigour in the second half. It was the Sangrur boys who drew the first blood in the fourth minute through Sumit. The Sangrur team managed to keep their slender lead intact in the first half However, on resumption, Khusropur Academy displayed better understanding with their forwards and neutralized the lead in the 31st minute as Gurpreet Junior scored a field goal. Khursopur XI kept on the pressure forged ahead two minutes later through Khushdeep Singh.

With the Sangrur boys going defensive, Khursopur Academy then pumped in two goals within a span of two minutes. Gurpreet Junior caught the Sangrur defenders napping by scoring a field goal in the 44th minute. One minute later Utamvir rounded of the winners' tally with a field goal.

Jarkhar Hockey Academy of Ludhiana collected full points at the expense of Mehta Gurukul Hockey Academy of Doraha whom they beat by 2-1 in a Pool A match. However, they wasted seven penalty corners.

Jarkhar Hockey Academy opened their account in the 14th minute through centre forward Amrit Pal Singh who found the target with a field goal. They were awarded a penalty stroke in the 26th minute and Amrit Pal Singh converted it in a smooth action. Mehta Gurukul Hockey Academy reduced the margin in the 29th minute through Paramjit.Saturday's fixtures in the event being organised by the Punjab Sports Department: Group I.
