Saurav outplays Wai Hang to win his second PSA title
Chennai, Jun 16 (UNI) Top seed Saurav Ghosal earned the second PSA title of his career when he outclassed Hong Kong's Wai Hang Wong in the 6,000 dollar fifth ICL Chennai open squash championship here this evening.
In a one-sided final that lasted just 21 minutes, Saurav, ranked 43, thrashed a not fully-fit second seed Wai Hang 11-3, 11-2, 11-3 to win the second PSA title -- the first being the Otters Club at Mumbai last year.
Playing in his fourth PSA final, Saurav hardly needed to sweat as he raced to victory. Down 2-3, he won nine points in a row to take the first game as his injured opponent had no reply to his cross court drops and flicks.
The second and third games too followed on the lines of first as Saurav tried a lot of variations and ran up a big lead to win the match without much ado.
His opponent, a former Hong Kong Open champion, suffering a harmstring pull, could not Saurav as he executed the drops to telling effect.
''I tried my best in the first game. But the pain was too much I could not do anything. I know it would be a tough match even if I am fully fit. I don't want to aggravate it further,'' a disappointed Wang later said.
A jubilant Saurav said he was well aware that Wang would be physically more tired after two long matches in the quarters and the semis.
Saurav, who would be playing world No 12 Md Abbas of Egpyt in the 40,000 dollar PSA event in Egypt next month, said the lethargic movement of his rival helped him to try out some variations.
''I played the boasts a lot today and concentrated on the drops,'' Saurav, who is aiming to break into the top 30 by the end of this year, said.
