Sathyabama lifts inter-university basketball title

Chennai, Dec 16 (UNI) Hosts Sathyabama University (Chennai) annexed the title in the Tamil Nadu Inter-University Basketball Championship here late last night.

In a low-scoring final, Sathyabama defeated Annamalai University, Chidambaram, 55-30.

Sinu did the star turn for the home team with some excellent shooting, scoring 17 points. Bopana and Milton chipped in with 12 and ten points respectively.

For the losers, Pechi ploughed a lone furrow, scoring 12 points.

Earlier, in a play off match for the third and fourth place, Madras University defeated SRM University 80-67.

Sathyabama University Chancellor Jeppiar presided over the finals and distributed the trophies to the winners.

Results: Final: Sathyabhama University, Chennai-55 (Sinu 17, Milton 10, Bopana 12) bt Annamalai University (Chidambaram)-30 (Pechi 12).

Losing semifinalists: Madras University-80 (Vinod 19, Madhavan 18) bt SRM-67 (Natraj 21, Praveen-10, Sharma-14).
