Sao Paulo drubs Mohammedan Sporting 6-0

Jamshedpur, Jan 31 (UNI) Exhibiting the brilliance of Latin American football, Brazil's Sao Paulo club drubbed Mohammedan Sporting of Kolkata 6-0 in the second match of the Super Soccer Series at the J R D Tata Sports Complex here today.

having beaten Kolkata league champions East Bengal 3-0 in the first match at Siliguri.

Though Sao Paulo won by a big margin, they played a lacklustre soccer in the first half against a weak Kolkata outfit. Mid-fielder Hernanes drew first blood in the 42nd minute with a powerful right footer from outside the box (1-0).

Sao Paulo could have increased the tally but Mohammedan custodian Gopal Das saved at least three goal-bound shots with acrobatic brilliance.

But after the lemon break, the Latin American club took total control of the game as they toyed with their opponent. Franncisco Alex scored the second goal in the 48th minute from the left flank (2-O) and also netted the the third in the 64th minute with a powerful (3-0).

Two minutes later Pablo dribbled past a couple of defenders to give his team an unassaisable 4-0 lead.

The Kolkata side looked helpless against the much superior opponents and most of the time the game was confined in the Mohammedan's territory.

Sao Paulo increased the tally to 5-0 through Andre in the 77th minutes from a power-packed left-footer.

Mohammedan Sporting tried to invade the rival's citadel in one or two occasions but their strikers took wayward shots.

Hernanes, who opened the account, also signed off with a spectacular shot from the right flank in the injury time (92nd minute) to give his team a comprehensive 6-0 victory.

Sao Paulo coach Antonio Carlos Silva said he was not satisfied with the play of his boys in the first half but they bounced back in the later half to dominate the proceedings. About the opponents, he said the Indian team was physicllay weak and unfit to match his players.

Even after conceding six goals, Mohammedan Sporting coach Subhas Bhowmick said considering the opponent's strength his players did well. '' They lost momentum after conceding the first goal, '' Bhowmick said.
