Sangma throws her weight behind Monica

Guwahati, Aug 18 (UNI) Former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma has thrown his weight behind weightlifter Monica Devi of Manipur.

Monica Devi was charged with doping by the SAI and stopped at the last minute to go to Beijing Olympic.

Though she was cleared at the intervention of the Prime Minister's Office(PMO), it was too late for her to participate in the event as the formalities were over.

Mr Sangma, also the NCP leader, said he would personally take up the matter with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Sigh when the latter would be on a visit to the North East from August 25.

The NCP has also demanded demanded CBI probe, in this regard.

A sobbing and crying Monica returned to Imphal yesterday where thousands of her supporters welcomed her at the airport.
