Saini on top as India finishes third at Asia Pacific golf

Manila, May 9 (UNI) Ashbir Saini won the individual event as Team India finished third in the Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championship 2008 here today.

The 14-year-old Saini, who is from Kapurthala, is representing the country for the first time. This was his maiden visit abroad.

Team India finished four strokes behind winners Thailand and three strokes behind the runners-up team from Chinese Taipei.

Team India was placed one stroke behind the leaders going into the final round. But Chinese Taipei, who were placed below India at that stage staged a brilliant fightback to grab the second spot.

The more illustrous senior members like Rahul Bakshi and Rashid Khan could not perform as good which resulted in India finishing third.
