SAI hands over stadia for upgradation for Commonwealth Games

New Delhi, Mar 28 (UNI) The Sports Authority of India (SAI) will be handing over 1982 Asian Games' stadia to various agencies for upgradation and renovation in its preparation of 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The Shyama Prasad Mukherjee swimming pool complex and Major Dhyan Chand National stadium will be handed over to CPWD from April 1 while the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, Dr Karni Singh shooting ranges and Indira Gandhi Indoor stadium will also be given for renovation to agencies in a phased manner.

Meanwhile, athletes training at the stadia will have to continue their practice in other sports complexes and government institutions where standard infrastructure facilities are available.

The willing units are in dialogue with SAI sports Administrators to finalise the modus operandi.
