SAG approves to host National Games 2011 in Goa
Panaji, Mar 16 (UNI) The Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), at its general body meeting held under chairmanship of Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane, today gave approval for hosting the National Games 2011 in Goa.
The National Games have been alloted to Goa by the Indian Olympic Assocation. The governing council of SAG approved it in its meeting held on December 15 last year.
SAG Executive Director V M Prabhudesai told reporters after the meeting that a 29-member Core Committee was appointed for the conduct of National Games 2011 under the chiarmanship of Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane.
It also includes Sports Minister Pandurang Madkaikar and Panchayat Minister Mr Subhash Shirodkar, who is also the president of Goa Olympic Association; both Vice-Chairmen, industrialists Mr Srinivas Dempo, Mr Shivanand Salgaonkar and Goa Olympic Association Secretary Mr Gurudatta Bhakta as a member secretary.
Mr Prabhudesai said the SAG and Goa Olympic Association have prepared a tentative plan for conducting various games and sports, the venues, cost of upgradation of existing infrastructure, cost of creation of new infrasctructure, all of which may come upto Rs 200-250 crore.
It is pertinent to mention that the Government of Assam has spent funds to the extent of Rs 350 crore on the recently held National Games, Mr Prabhudesai added.
