Rovin emerges Jr Snooker champ in Maharashtra Billiards tourney

Mumbai, Nov 18 (UNI) Upcoming cueist Rovin D'Souza fashioned a convincing 3-0 win over Hasan Badami to clinch the junior snooker crown, in the Matunga Gymkhana Maharashtra State Selection 2007 Billiards&Snooker Tournament, at the Matunga Gymkhana here today.

D'Souza, who earlier had an easy outing in the semi-finals, overcame Islam Gymkhana's Badami 71-22, 74-21, 71-30 in the best-of-five frames championship round.

D'Souza and Badami thus qualified to play for Maharashtra in the Nationals to be held in Hyderabad early next year.

In the semi-finals, D'Souza ignored the blemish of dropping the third frame to crush Rahil Narang 72-3, 50-1, 51-65, 80-13, while Badami beat Reza Merchant 70-13, 55-20, 60-37.

Earlier, Aditya Agrawal prevailed over Anik Thakkar 491-286 in the one-hour contest to seal his place in the junior billiards final.

The top two in each category qualify to play for Maharashtra in the Nationals.

Results: Jr Snooker (Final): Rovin D'Souza bt Hasan Badami 71-22, 74-21, 71-30.

Semi-Finals: Rovin D'Souza bt Rahil Narang 72-3, 50-1, 51-65, 80-13; Hasan Badami bt Reza Merchant 70-13, 55-20, 60-37.

Jr Billiards (semi-finals): Aditya Agrawal bt Anik Thakkar 491-286.
