Rotax Max Karting Challenge penultimate round this weekend
Chennai, Aug 16 (UNI) The Kari Motor Speedway in the textile city of Coimbatore is all set for the penultimate round of the JK Tyre Rotax Max Karting Challenge this weekend.
With very few points separating leaders in both the senior and junior categories, the championship was still wide open, and the weekend promised a series of close encounters.
The qualifying sessions would be held on August 18 and the main races on August 19.
After three rounds, Mumbai racer Ameya Walavalkar heads the table in the senior category with 215.5 points, followed closely by Chennai lad Aditya Patel with 207.5 points. Pune's Rayomand Banajee was placed third with 205 points.
In the juniors, Kolhapur's Chittesh Mandody and Parth Ghorpade led the charts with 126.5 and 124 points respectively. Chennai lad Vishnu Prasad was third with 121.5 points.
Into its fourth year, the event had been conceived to provide a platform for karters to develop racing skills with high speed in the first year of single seater racing, with karts equipped with the world famous two stroke Rotax Max kart engines.
India's Armaan Ebrahim had started his career with the Rotax Max format and went on to win the Asian and Indian championships, before graduating to Formula BMW, Formula Renault UK, A1 GP and Formula Renault V6 Championships.
