Rooney's gal is Fergie's favourite WAG

London, May 26 : Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has given Wayne Rooney's fiancee Coleen McLoughlin the seal of approval.

Fergie called Coleen a "clever girl who is down to earth - she's good" when he announced that he would be stepping down as United boss in the next three years.

However the Scot, who has been with ManU for 22 years, slammed publicity-seeking couples like the Beckhams.

It is believed that Sir Alex, 66, blames former Spice Girl Victoria for the rift between him and Beckham.

"Becks was Fergie's golden boy until he and Victoria got together," the Daily Star quoted a source, as saying.

"Sir Alex noticed Beckham's mind went off the game and he became far more interested in fashion and marketing deals."

However, he was all praise for Rooney, saying during the interview: "He doesn't court publicity."

Another source added that it was Coleen's determination to make her own career that had endeared her to Fergie.

"Fergie respects Coleen for making her own career whereas Posh has lived off David's name and never really succeeded on her own," the source said.
