Romio wins men's foil gold

Bangalore, Jan 11 (UNI) Manipuri sabers continued their fine run, with A Romio winning the gold in men's individual foil event in the 17th Senior National Fencing Championship here today.

Romio defeated statemate O Soraj 15-11 in a closely fought duel.

Shashidhar Singh and Lakshmikanth, both from Karnataka, took the bronze.

Results: Men: Foil Individual: Quarterfinals: Shashidhar Singh (Kar) bt Ranjith (Asm) 15-4, O Soraj (Mpr) bt Kailash (Pun) 14-10, Lakshmikanth (Kar) bt Kailash (Pun) 15-14 and A Romio (Mpr) bt Tukaram (AP) 15-14.

Semifinals: Soraj bt Shashidhar Singh 11-8 and Romio bt Lakshmikanth 15-13.

Finals: Romio bt Soraj 15-11.
