Ravinder wins singles final
Lucknow, Feb 23 (UNI) Ravinder Singh of Lucknow won a gold medal in the men's singles final badminton of the VI Uttar Pradesh State Games here today, beating Anurag Sharma of Allahabad.
Anurag secured the second place to bag a silver medal.
The singles women's crown was worn by Bareilly's Jyoti Sharma after pushing Gorakhpur's Kavita Singh to the second spot .
In the men's singles final, Ravinder beat Anurag at 21-16,21-18 in straight sets, while Jyoti clinched the gold medal in a hard fought match with Kavita at 21-18,21-16.
In the men's doubles event, D B Thapa/ Mukul Thapa (BLY/LKW) outclasssed Lucknow lads Ravinder and Nishant Prakash.
The Thapa pair won the first set easily at 21-17 and lost the second at 14-21. In the decider, Thapas mounted pressure and overcame Ravinder and Nishant's pair at 21-13.
In the Women's doubles, Seema Patwal/Nida Asmat of Lucknow beat Jyoti Sharma and Kavita pair at 21-19, 18-21 and 21-16.
Later, UP Exise Commissioner Sudheer Bobde presented Akhilesh Das trophey and a cash prize of Rs 2,000 each to Ravinder and Jyoti for winning the golds.
