Ranjeet shocks top seed Samar Adhikari

Chandigarh, June 12 (UNI) Unseeded Ranjeet Singh of Chandigarh pulled off the biggest upset in the boys Under-16 second round match as he stunned top seed Samar Adhikari of Maharashtra in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the AITA Talent Series Tennis Tournament here today.

Ranjeet will now face Jivtesh Singh Kang, also of Chandigarh, in the quarter-final match tomorrow.

In another match, Nischay Rawal of Chandigarh looked in good form as he demolished the challenge of wild card entrant Aviraj Kamboj in the second-round outing, in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

Ranjeet and Rawal will now be joined by sixth seeded Raghav Singal (Chandigarh), fifth seed Suraj Beniwal(Haryana), third seed Rohit Choudhary(Delhi), wild card Bhavtaran Preet(Chandigarh) and second seed Sidhant Solanki(Delhi) in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, in the boys Under-12 wild card entrants Ranjeet Singh and Arjun Mehra (Chandigarh), two qualifiers Amit Bzad (Punjab) and Pranav Suri (Chandigarh) and lucky loser Vikas Beriwal (Haryana) dominated the second round matches as they entered quarter-finals.

Harmeet Singh, Ranjeet Singh and Pranav Suri were extended to three sets before advancing to the next round. While Pranav overcame a tough battle against fifth seed Prateek Aklesh of Delhi 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, Shubham Vij of Chandigarh went down fighting to Harmeet Singh at 7-6 (4), 2-6, 0-6. Also keeping the flag fluttering was wild card Ranjeet Singh who trashed qualifier Hardeep Singh of Punjab 5-7, 6-4, 3-6.

Others who qualified for the last eight stage were top seed Nischay Rawal (Chandigarhd), third seed Jatinder Singh (Chd) and fourth seed Harmeet Singh (Chd).
