Randhawa jumps to tied 17th, Kapur survives while Jeev misses cut
Limerick, Ireland, May 19 (UNI) Amid gusty wins, Jyoti Randhawa showed tremendous guts to card a two under-70 as he engineered a remarkable recovery to jump to tied 17th at the half way stage of the Irish Open at Adare Manor Golf Resorts near here.
Compatriot Shiv Kapur produced a brilliant eagle out of the blue on the last hole as he carded a two-over 74 to barely make the cut. Meanwhile, highest-ranked Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh did himself in after a nightmarish 10-over 82, which incuded two bogeys and, worse, even a triple bogey.
At half way mark, Randhawa aggregates two-over 146 and is five strokes behind the leader, Padraig Harrington of Ireland who returned day's best card -- a four-under 68 -- to go on top.
Kapur was lying at a lowly tied 64 with a two total of seven-over 151.
The winner of PGTI DLF Masters, Randhawa had a mountain to climb after his four-over 76 Round One. The ace golfer looked in sublime touch as he reeled off five bogeys in a blemish-free back nine to make the turn at five-under.
However, he fumbled on his front nine and successive bogeys on sixth and seventh double bogey on the eighth before picking up a birdie to sign off with.
Had it not been an eagle on the last hole (par-five ninth), Kapur would have had his weekend off, for the talented Indian was trading chiefly in bogeys.
