Randhawa, Jeev fizzle out on final day in Dubai

Dubai, Feb 4 (UNI) Jyoti Randhawa and Jeev Milkha Singh failed to provide the final dash at the Dubai Desert Classic, finishing tied seventh and tied 34th respectively at the end of the final round here today.

Both the Indians reserved their worst for the last day, turning in over-par performances, with Randhawa carding a poor two-under 74 and Jeev an atrocious four-under 76.

While Randhawa blew away a splendid chance to top the leaderboard after ending on tied second spot yesterday, ahead of golfing greats like Tiger Woods, among others, the UBS Order of Merit winner Jeev slid further from the tied 13th slot.

The 35-year-old Randhawa spoilt the show by sinking in successive bogeys on the fifth and sixth holes to follow it up on the eighth hole against a solitary birdie on the 16th.

Jeev, on the other hand seemed to be on a bogey-hitting spree with three successive bogeys starting from the third, eighth and fourteenth holes.

Meanwhile, it was Swede Henrik Stenson, who soared ahead of course record holder South African Ernie Els to walk away with the Dubai Desert Classic trophy with a total tally of 19-uner 269.

Tiger Woods, with a tally of 17-under 271, failed to win back-to-back Dubai titles as he could not mount a sustained challenge throughout the four days, to ultimately finish on tied third alongside another Swede, Fasth Nicalas.

Englishman Fisher, who used to pick up balls at practice range for Tiger Woods during the 1998 World Match Play Championship (at Wentworth) ended a stroke clear of the World number one on 16-under 272.
